Disclaimer: This is a review by a Crone. Evidently I am supposed to die this year. Life expectancy in Modernia is 72 years. I identify as Irreverent; Shovel Ready; Observer; Person Who Likes Dresses. I am also a Boy in a Girl suit, which means that I have a brain in this body. I get to say whatever I see. Take it with a grain of salt peter. And go eat your feelings, which seems to be all the rage today since being a fat hog is now beautiful. I get to say that because I have had a checkered body history for most of my 72 years. Been fat, puking, starving, bingeing, carbo, macro, carni, probiotic, antibiotic and over indulgent with some self flagellation on the side.
I know more than I can remember.
The reviewer for TV Guide online said this show is One of Apple TV+'s best comedies is taking the battle to the workplace in Season 3. This was new to me, so I tuned it and found that liars can lie, and self deception is epidemic in Modernia.
Questions arise in great abundance as I confront a teen targeted sitcom about computer land. What makes this show “One of TV’s best comedies”? Is it the lead feminine character acting like a careless, vulgar, greedy dude? Or is it her male business partner acting like a pussy-whipped simpleton?
What message does this propaganda send to the young? The feminine is a buzz kill and the masculine is an idiot. Tough choices for role models.
Is pretty no longer politically correct? When I was a young womun, I couldn’t get modeling jobs because I “needed to lose” 10 pounds. I was 5’8” weighing 135 pounds. Quite healthy and curvy. Now a days it looks like you can’t get an acting job if you are not at least 20 pounds overweight, frumpy and cranky. The lead in this show is not fat, but she is neurotic, gross and unpleasant to look at and listen to. Her male counterpart is embarrassing to watch and listen to. The cast in general is always upset and argumentative. Did I mention the dialog? How it is boring and self absorbed enough to make a narcissist blush?
Why does the audience need to know every character’s sexuality? I can understand a sexual plot line in context with a story, but why does each person, regardless of the plot declare where they put their body parts into the bodies of others? Who is poking who in the where now, with what?
“I’m gay. I’m bi gay. I’m semi bi polar gendered. I am s/he/them. I am we. I suck hair. I fuck with my nose. I fuck with my pinkie toe.” Enough! Can we go back to the day when sex was private, and identity was a combination of your life performance rather that your body parts?
And why is the modern environment set in a white, nihilistic cube with pillared hallways leading to more nihilistic cubes? Look at any post modern drama sets and note the abundance of stainless steel, very tall windows and penthouse views. The goal in life is to be above it all, rich, isolated and sterile. These people live in ice caves. No soft pillows or comfy couches or quiet dark retreats. They live in single white space with a targeted area in the middle of the space where they sit and compute and eat candy.
Why the continuous anxiety in place of actual conversation? Could it be the candy? How about the lack of comfort? That could do it. I felt my throat clenching tighter by the minute as each whiny little bitch recited her/his screechy lines.
Why is this supposed to be funniest thing on the tube? Why this series of stressed, dysfunctional people living in a sanitary white indoor environment? Oh. Wow. Could it be that a sanitary indoor environment creates anxiety and dysfunction and that is the moral of this story? I doubt that the writers and producers are aware of their complicity in the coming age of compliance that this program promotes.
Young people watch and learn from the Tube. The programming is both product of the culture and projection into the future. Having watched so many post apocalyptic movies since Mad Max, have we all been conditioned to accept the downfall of nature as natural?
The next step looks even more grim as we are encouraged to accept the erasure of nature and the normalcy of the anxiety that will naturally emerge with it. Grow a plant, for fark’s sake! Then eat it.
